Artist's Description
Bathed in the warm flare of sunrise, this Consolidated PB4Y Privateer stands ready on the tarmac — its polished aluminum fuselage catching the first light of morning with dramatic clarity. Shot low and wide to emphasize the aircraft’s presence and power, the composition draws the eye from glinting rivets to the shadowed undercarriage, all framed by the sweeping geometry of propellers and wings.
This long-range patrol bomber, a derivative of the famed B-24, served in U.S. Navy and Coast Guard roles, and its legacy lives on in aircraft like this. Captured at just the right moment as the sun breaks over the distant ridgeline, this image uses contrast and lens flare to heighten emotion, invoking the promise of a mission not yet flown.
Photographed with early access and timed to perfection, this image is part of Dave Koch’s historic aviation series — a visual preservation of machines that helped shape the skies of the 20th century. Explore the full gallery to see more...
